I took a steadying breath before I walked around, preparing for a shock.Įven after steeling myself, I was still blown away by what I saw as I came around her hind legs. “I’ll see what I can do.” I sprinted around her legs and paused as I reached her hind paws. My eyes went very wide as I realized what she was asking me, though as she curled up even tighter I realized she might need my help. “I-I don’t know,” she forced out in a strained voice, “But the pain is back and it’s stronger than before.” She forced one eye open halfway and asked in a pleading voice, “Can you go back there and see what is going on?” “What’s wrong?!” From what she had told me, the other egg wouldn’t be laid for several days. I was about to answer her when her eyes went very wide before she shut them tightly and tensed again. Any other human in this pit would let me writhe in pain and not lift a finger to help.” She smiled warmly at me, her eyes filled with gratitude, “I know I’ve said this before, but I cannot say how much thanks I have for you in my time of need. You delivered your egg with no difficulty, and once you lay the second I can slip them out of the base.” I smiled as I walked up to her head, gently rubbing between her eyes with my open palm to help soothe any leftover pain, “I wouldn’t know, though I couldn’t be more proud of you. In that way I guess we are not so different.” “Thank you.” She said between pants, “Even when another dragon is present to help, it never comes without pain.” She chuckled slightly as she turned her head to look at me, “I know that human females go through similar pain during labor. I glanced around her back legs, which were curled up tight against her belly, and saw a pure white egg rolling around in a small circle just past her leg.Ĭalmstrike seemed to deflate as she let out a long and gusty sigh, and I pat her stomach a couple times as I smiled up at her. She stiffened and gave a mighty roar as I heard the distinct rattle of something hard rolling across the floor. I pressed a bit harder, hoping to be of help while she went through this. She groaned deeply and I felt her whole body tighten as another wave of pain erupted in her body. She had told me a few days earlier that it would help the egg come and to lessen the pain. I quickly moved to her belly and began to rub firmly in large circles over her stomach scales. I ran to her side, not knowing what was happening at first, but then I remembered what day it was. If you want a quick update in the next book be sure to vote and comment, or else things could take a while, hahahahahahaha!Īs it turned out, I had just delivered her food when Calmstrike curled up in obvious pain. Although, i could drop you off a cliff at the end of this book and leave you hanging until the next one.
